Amazing Results with Botox for the Neck

Do you have lines on your neck that bother you? If so, then Botox can help. Take a look at the results from the patient shown here.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein used to treat wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Botox works by relaxing the muscles and smoothening out wrinkles. With an injection such as Botox, there are risks such as pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, and tenderness. Dr. Alex uses a painless injection technique for his Botox treatments to make it easy. You’ll see the results of your Botox treatment within a few days after your treatment, but sometimes it can take up to two weeks. So it’s important to be patient. Most people enjoy the results of their Botox treatments for three to four months. At that time, Dr. Alex recommends a maintenance Botox treatment.

Why do I have wrinkles on my neck?

Wrinkles on the neck are very common. They occur as a result of multiple factors. One is the natural aging process. Over time the amount of collagen your skin makes decreases. Collagen is the protein that keeps your skin tight. As a result, the skin becomes loose and wrinkles can be seen. This is worsened by continued sun exposure. There’s also a muscle in your neck called the platysma muscle. This muscle connects your collar bone with your lower face. People contract this muscle when making certain movements or facial expressions. When this happens the vertical fibers of the muscle contract. Sometimes you can see vertical bands on the neck from this, especially when you contract this muscle. Wrinkles in the skin form perpendicular to the fibers of the muscle; in this area the wrinkles are horizontal. These are sometimes called necklace lines because they go around the neck like a necklace. Another name for this is tech neck because nowadays people frequently look down at their cell phones, which can cause these wrinkles.

How much Botox will I need for my neck?

The platysma muscle in the neck is a thin and broad muscle. Typically, 40 to 60 units of Botox are used to treat the neck bands. You’ll see an improvement in the appearance of the vertical bands and your horizontal necklace lines, and you’ll also notice an improvement in your jawline. It will be more defined. This can be enhanced by using fillers such as Voluma in the mid-face and lower face. The patient seen in the before and after pictures shown here received 40 units of Botox in her neck. She is trying to contract her muscle in both pictures. Since the muscle is relaxed from the Botox, the vertical neck bands are no longer seen. Also, you can’t see the horizontal necklace lines after her Botox treatment. Finally, if you look closely you’ll notice an improvement in the definition of her jawline after her Botox treatment.
