Juvederm Profile Coming Soon

Did you know that there will soon be another dermal filler in the Juvederm collection? Keep reading to learn more.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a collection of dermal fillers used to improve the appearance of your skin by filling in wrinkles and folds. The active ingredient in the Juvederm collection of fillers is a sugar called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found in your skin. When used in the Juvederm collection of fillers and placed in your skin, hyaluronic acid will draw water into the area. This will volumize the area and fill in lines and wrinkles.

Hylacross Technology

The first filler in the Juvederm collection was Juvederm itself, now called Juvederm Ultra. Then another one came out with more firming properties called Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus use a technology called Hylacross. This means that the hyaluronic acid is in long chains and the chains a connected by a cross-linking agent (called BDDE). These draw in a lot of water and can be particularly firm.

Vycross Technology

About five to ten years ago, Voluma was released. It used a new technology called Vycross to create the product. The active ingredient of hyaluronic acid is the same. But with Vycross technology, both short chains and long chains of hyaluronic acid are used, and the cross linking agent is the same. What this does is it allows for a lower amount of hyaluronic acid to be required for the same effect. It also allows the product to last even longer. The previously most firm available product, Juvederm Ultra Plus contained 30 mg of hyaluronic acid per syringe. Voluma contains only 20 mg of hyaluronic acid per syringe. But the Vycross technology allows for more lift, a softer product, and more natural result. As a result, Voluma has now been used for years to volumize areas such as the cheeks, temples, nose, chin, and jawline.

Later, two more products called Vollure and Volbella became available. They use the exact same Vycross technology as Voluma. But Vollure contains 17.5 mg of hyaluronic acid per syringe and Volbella 15 mg per syringe. These slight changes make drastic differences in the results and therefore they are used in different areas. Vollure is great for nasolabial folds (sometimes called smile lines) and under eyes. And Volbella is perfect for lips and fine lines, and also works for under eyes. Decreasing the hyaluronic acid concentration makes these products softer. And conversely, with the higher level of hyaluronic acid, Voluma is firmer and is better for areas that need more of a lift.

Juvederm Profile

Juvederm Profile is a new dermal filler in the Juvederm collection that will likely be available later this year. It has been available already for several years in other countries, where it’s known as Volux. Profile uses the same Vycross technology as Voluma, Vollure, and Volbella. The difference is that Profile has an even higher hyaluronic acid concentration than Voluma: 25 mg in Profile as compared with 20 mg in Voluma. This means that it will lift even more than Voluma. The clinical trials in the United States for Profile were done on the chin and jawline and showed impressive and long-lasting results. We are excited to be able to have our hands on it later this year.

Another new product in the Juvederm collection that will also be available soon is called Skin Vive. It has been available overseas and is also called Volite. More information will be available later, but Skin Vive will be used as a skin booster throughout the skin, which is different from traditional fillers.
