Treating Mask-ne

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many people are wearing masks throughout the day. Although these masks protect you from getting infected, they could irritate your skin and cause mask-ne. Mask-ne is a term that means acne caused by wearing a mask. Mask-ne has become very common. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to treat mask-ne.

What causes mask-ne?

Mask-ne is a new term that describes acne on the face caused by wearing a mask. It has become more common now that people are wearing masks to protect themselves from COVID-19. For various reasons, some people have skin that is acne prone. If you have acne-prone skin, you need to be careful what you put on your skin and what touches the skin. For example, if you use a moisturizer such as Vaseline or Aquaphor that is very occlusive, it can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Similarly, wearing a mask throughout the day can also clog your pores and cause acne, which we call mask-ne.

How can I treat mask-ne?

The best way to treat mask-ne is to treat the cause, if possible. In this case, the cause is wearing a mask throughout the day. But since you need the mask for protection, you can’t stop wearing it altogether. However, there may be times when you can take off your mask such as if you’re in a room by yourself. Doing this as much as possible will help your skin breath and prevent your pores from getting clogged which leads to breakouts. Even better, if you can wash your face throughout the day, you’ll be able to remove the oil, dirt, and debris that builds up on your skin.

You can also treat mask-ne the same way acne is treated. There are both skin care products that you can use at home as well as treatments you can have. For example, the A E Skin Acne Max Solution is an outstanding product for people with acne. The A E Skin Acne Max Solution contains multiple ingredients to treat your acne. One ingredient in the A E Skin Acne Max Solution is prescription-strength salicylic acid. Salicylic acid will break the glue that holds the dead skin cells together on your skin surface. These dead skin cells build up and clog pores, creating breakouts. By removing the dead skin, you’ll exfoliate the surface and prevent breakouts. Salicylic acid is particularly good for acne because it penetrates deeper into oily skin, which is common in people who are acne prone. The A E Skin Acne Max Solution also contains clindamycin, an antibiotic that will kill the bacteria that can buildup in the skin. Another product that works well to treat acne is the A E Skin Brightening Cream. The A E Skin Brightening Cream contains prescription-strength retin-A, which stimulates your skin cells to turn over faster. This prevents the buildup of dead skin cells on your skin’s surface which clogs pores and leads to breakouts.

For further improvement, you can treat your mask-ne with chemical peels. Dr. Alex uses the Red Carpet Peel. The Red Carpet Peel is an outstanding treatment that will exfoliate your skin and stimulate cell turnover. This will also prevent the buildup of dead skin cell on your skin’s surface which clogs pores and leads to breakouts. The Red Carpet Peel has more benefits. The Red Carpet Peel will stimulate your skin to make more collagen. Collagen is the protein in your skin that keeps it tight, firm, and youthful in appearance. This will lead to tighter and brighter skin. It will also improve fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. The Red Carpet Peel will also correct any uneven color and sun damage on your skin.

Although wearing a mask can lead to mask-ne, there are many ways you can treat it.
